Brilliant movie trailers persuade you, quite simply, to go and watch the movie. Unfortunately most are lying – including this one.
Movie sequels are rubbish
Movie sequels are usually rubbish (see below). But I can’t help hoping this movie will at least retain some of the greatness of the original “Guardians of the Galaxy”.
Brilliant movie trailers
The trailer of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” has two good points:
- a promising soundtrack
- a fine line: “There are two types of beings in the universe. Those who dance. And those who do not.” This is true, and cool.
But not perfect
The trailer also has one bad point:
- not much evidence of anything new or original from the previous outing.
I am a congenital optimist and lover of good sci-fi and comedy, so hoped fervently that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” would be brilliant.
Why sequels suck
Sadly, it turned out after I wrote this review of the trailer that my caution about whether the “GoG2” would be any good or a piss-poor apology for a movie was 100% justified. See my review of the movie – and the Lego Batman movie, equally tragic – here. How can you have music in the trailer which isn’t even in the movie? I despair.
But we keep on hoping that the next movie will be better. For an analysis of why we do this, check out this review of why we keep going to see film franchises despite overwhelming evidence that they’ll be piss-poor.
